Prof. Dengel has been received by South Korean Minister Chai Yankee
In context of his visit to the SPRI conference in Seoul, Prof. Dengel has been received by Chai Yankee, the Southkorean Minister for Research, ICT and Future Planning, to talk about the new Korean AI Center, which has been founded on a similar model as the DFKI. The AI Center will receive 30 Mio US$ base funding per year and shall be launched during the year 2016.
Prof. Dengel holds Keynote at E-Billing summit
In early May 2016, Prof Dengel was invited to give a keynote speech at the E-Billing summit (E-Rechnungs-Gipfel) hosted in the Biebrich castle in Wiesbaden. The event was a get-together of around 180 experts and key accounts to discuss about solutions, trends, research aaround electronic invoicing and billing. Dengels talk was entitled "Vom Dokument zum Unternehmensgedächtnis: Die E-Rechnung als Treiber für Unternehmensprozesse".
Dengels competencies in this field have a long tradition and reach back to the founding years of DFKI (1988), where he directed a large publicly funded project dedicated to reading and understanding of business letters. His fingerprints in office automation are also visible by numerous spin-offs and awards as well as currently running R&D projects in the related fields.
Keynote on the German Symposium in London
From February 29th to March 4th 2016 the German Society of the London School of Economics invited for the German Symposium 2016. The opening cermony was done by the German embassador in Great Britan, Peter Ammon. Speeches were held by VIPs such as Wolfgang Schäuble, Gregor Gysi, Ranga Yogeshwar, Ferdinand Kirchhof, Peter Frey or Django Asyl, just to mention the most prominent.
Prof. Andreas Dengel held a keynote on this important event with the title "Artificial Intelligence and Intelligence Amplification" and also participated on a podium discussion about the technology sector in Germany.

Dr. Damian Borth, head of DFKIs Deep Learning Competence Center, has been invited as discussion partner in a live TV format dedicated to the new Deep Learning trends in AI.
DFKI and TU Kaiserslautern are hosting ICMU 2016
The Ninth International Conference on Mobile Computing and Ubiquitous Networking (ICMU 2016) is scheduled from October 4th to 6th 2016 at the German Research Center for AI (DFKI). The ICMU focuses on the active area of research and development in mobile communications, applications, algorithms and systems as well as ubiquitous services and computing. The special focus of this year’s ICMU includes advancing technologies for next generation distributed and ubiquitous computing where human, networked sensors, connected devices and environment are involved.

CeBit Innovation Award 2015
One of our spin-off companies, digipen technologies, has been awarded with the CeBIT Innovation Award 2015 for its digisign solution!
digisign uses biometrical features recorded with a digital pen when signing a document to provide a fraud resistant identification of the signature's originator.
digipen technologies will present their pen based data capture technology at the upcoming CeBIT from March 16th to 20th, 2015.
Their digipen product line is a powerful and robust means for transferring handwritten notes into structured and machine understandable data.
Awarded as the founding sponsor of the year
During a formal ceremony on November 4, 2014 in Kaiserslautern, Prof. Dr. Andreas Dengel was awarded as the founding sponsor of the year 2014. In his career, Prof. Dengel has successfully supported several cutting edge technologies to find their way to the market in spin-offs and start-ups. The award was granted for his engagement in the two spin-offs b4-value.net and digipen technologies. Awarding organization was the "Initiative KL".
Die Zukunft des Lesens - The Future of Reading
In its issue from December 8, 2014, the title story of the weekly news magazine "Der Spiegel" was entiteled "Die Zukunft des Lesens" (the future of reading). The article is largely based on the research conducted at the Knowledge Management department at DFKI under the lead of Prof. Andreas Dengel.
Area Chair at ICDAR 2015
Prof. Andreas Dengel acts as area chair for the 13th IAPR International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition (ICDAR) to be held in Tunis (Tunisia) from August 23 to 26, 2015.
Successful participation in "Smart Data" competition
The Knowledge Management Department successfully participated in the technology competition "Smart Data - Innovations from Data" launched by the BMWi: In the field "Industry" the project "PRO-OPT - Big Data Production Optimization in Smart Ecosystems" was selected for funding. And in the field "Energy" the project "Smart Regional Strategy: Strategic analysis of heterogeneous mass data in an urban environment" was also successful.
