Multimedia Content Management

Multimedia Content Management

The research group examines the processing, retrieval, maintenance, and publication of multimedia content. The development of technologies and methods for component-based multimedia documents and systems stands at the forefront of our scientific work. Digital libraries and semantic web services are typical fields of application.

The enormous popularity of multimedia technology produces a sustainable demand for efficient strategies to manage the large amount of multimedia content. Existing solutions manage text and images, based on low-level features, fulfilling only a small part of the users' expectations. But users expect systems which provide mechanisms for content search and retrieval based on high-level descriptions. However, the management and retrieval of video content is more difficult than managing a collection of static images. Research on multimedia content management has changed from low-level feature extraction towards semantic content description and representation. Key enabling technology of the future are video understanding and analysis.
